Comparing EMR Solutions — a Quick "How To" Guide

Feeling Overwhelmed? We Know How You Feel.

Since Clinic Service was primarily a medical billing and practice management firm long before developing an EMR solution, we had the same initial reaction. Our doctors came to us to look for help wading through the crowded EMR software market. Our first attempt to research and compare products was overwhelming. With so many products crowding the market—each promising to raise physician efficiencies while almost guaranteeing government reimbursement for buyers—it was difficult to determine what was valid and what was marketing fluff.

On our second approach, we first determined what questions to ask each EMR vendor so that we could compare all products from the same perspective. Items like Ease of Use, Price, and Technical Requirements topped our list. As we evaluated the competition using our predetermined, consistent criteria, we came to one conclusion rather quickly.

We could do better. So we did.

Listed below are the criteria that we used to evaluate EMR’s, based on the input from doctors that determined was the most important to them. If you would like to use our evaluation worksheet as a tool, feel free to download it here. We’ve taken the liberty of filling in the first column for you. If you have additional criteria you would like to compare, simply add the fields into this worksheet.
